BALANCED PRACTICE YOGA RETREATS

Join senior yoga teacher Amelia Disspain and yoga therapist and physiotherapist Liz Bennett on a 7 day retreat in Northern Portugal.

Be guided skilfully through yogic practices including steady, balanced asana – energy gathering pranayama, mindful meditation and deep relaxation and learn about Ayurvedic lifestyle practices with two senior teachers.

Liz and Amelia design their retreats to ignite a spark within participants that charges their very way of being into one that is more open, joyful and more connected to themselves, others and our beautiful world.

D’Alijo Retreat Center is set in a traditional quinta estate surrounded by five hectares of farm land and rolling hills. Resting in the village of Cabeceiras de Basto in the province of Minho, D’Alijio is an hour’s drive from the beautiful city of Porto and the Atlantic coastline.

The area is well known for its Vinho Verde vineyards, olive fields and beautiful national park hiking trails. The studio and accommodation are cohesively blended with nature, and are designed for you to enjoy luxurious comfort while still connecting with the magic of the surroundings. D’Alijo sprawls across garden terraces, olive fields and hills with stunning rock formations. There are two swimming pools, water features, and a peaceful meditation cave, designed for you to quietly contemplate the beauty of existence.

Wild flowers and sunshine give us the perfect reason to venture off and hike through the bordering national park to take in its enchanting waterfalls and towering trees.

During our day trips, we will explore the beautiful Douro Valley, taste local wines and hike to a nearby local trout farm and restaurant for lunch.

Porto offers an international airport just one hour away from the retreat centre. We organise buses to collect our group from Porto Airport to bring you to the retreat.

Our morning yoga class each day gradually establishes you in a flowing sequence which works the body holistically and can be practised quite gently or more intensely with easier or stronger variations always offered.

Energising the body and bringing a quality of lightness to are amongst the goals of our sequences, as well as helping you get more in touch with how you feel, to lead you towards a natural state of meditation.

Our evening practices are therapeutic and focused on developing breath awareness and energetic balance to enhance the benefits of your stronger morning yoga practices.

Excursions  Beauitful forest hiking in the national park for lunch in local restaurant Piovacora. Waterfall trip and afternoon trip to Quinta Nova in the Douro Valley. Walk through the vineyards and wine tasting with sunset views over the Douro.

Extras  Massages and treatments can be booked and paid for at D’Alijo.

Food 3 meals a day. Breakfast buffet. Local, regional and many ingredients from our vegetarian chef’s own garden. Buffet lunch al fresco, with optional local wines. Soups and salad contribute to lighter dinners.
